Scale of Galway forest fire ‘frightening’

Coillte staff have managed to reduce the immediate threat to wind turbines in the Cloosh Valley in Co Galway, as efforts to counter the spread of a forest fire there continue.

The forestry agency says the fires are being tackled on three separate fronts in different parts of the 4,000 hectare area.

A reduction in temperatures and slackening winds assisted the process overnight. The blaze has been contained in two areas but the fire is still raging in a third section of the forest.
