Merlin helicopters from RNAS Culdrose stand guard around HMS Queen Elizabeth aircraft carrier

Royal Navy helicopters from Cornwall had the chance to get a closer look at Britain’s new aircraft carrier when they provided aerial cover as HMS Queen Elizabeth first took to the sea.

Two Royal Navy frigates also joined the giant aircraft carrier to secure the seas around the ship as she embarks on her maiden sea trials.

HMS Sutherland and HMS Iron Duke have been escorting the Royal Navy’s largest ever warship as she conducts vital system tests off the coast of Scotland.
