Major rescue operation launched as teenage boy falls 45ft into an abandoned quarry

A specialist line rescue crew and a rescue helicopter were called to save a teenage boy, believed to be 14 years old, who fell 45ft into a quarry.

According to South Wales Fire and Resuce Service, the boy fell into the quarry at Cilsanws Nature Reserve near Merthyr Tydfil.

The call came in to emergency services at 3.10pm.

According to our photographer on the scene, three helicopters have been in attendance including Mid Wales Air Ambulance.
