Flood alerts issued across the UK… as Chinook military helicopter is deployed in Cumbria

Flood alerts are in place across Britain as a Chinook military helicopter was drafted in to take emergency supplies to parts of Cumbria hit by heavy snow.

Thirty-three flood alerts are in place, largely concentrated in the west of England and Wales, as melting snow and rainfall risk sparking fresh problems.

Temperatures rose above freezing over the weekend after the ‘Beast from the East’ and Storm Emma brought a deep cold snap during last week which saw the first day of meteorological spring.
