Bell 407 helicopter will allow Amarillo-based Rico Aviation pilots to land directly on hospital helipads, shaving off crucial minutes of transportation time on patients’ emergency room trips

Amarillo-based Rico Aviation — which tragically lost three employees in a fatal air ambulance crash nearly three months ago — will gain a helicopter and 15 staffers through a partnership with Air Methods.

The Bell 407 helicopter allows Rico pilots to land directly on hospital helipads, shaving off crucial minutes of transportation time for its patients’ emergency room trips. It’ll also allow medics to drop down on or next to a highway for premium access to crashes.

Four new pilots and 11 nurses/paramedics have nearly doubled Rico Aviation’s staff size, according to Rico president Richard Coon.
